Information we collect

• Account information. When you sign up with email we collect your email address and a password. Your password is stored in hashed form by our authentication provider; we never see it. If you continue with Google instead, Google shares your name, email address, and profile picture with us, and we show the picture as your account avatar. We never receive your Google password.
• Your contributions. Verdict votes, answers to criteria questions, and holiday selections you make while signed in are stored with your account.
• Profile. The display name you choose and whether your profile is public or private.
• Information stored in your browser. We use your browser’s local storage to keep you signed in, to remember answers you give while signed out (these stay in your browser until you create an account, when they are saved to it), and to remember display preferences.
• Usage information. We use Vercel Web Analytics and PostHog to understand how the site is used: which pages are visited, the referring site and campaign links, general device, browser, and country information, and actions such as searching (the number of results, not what you searched for), voting, answering questions, clicking a streaming or retail link, and signing in. Neither uses cookies or stores anything in your browser, and neither identifies you personally. Our hosting providers also keep standard server logs, which include IP addresses, for security and reliability.
• Searches. Movie searches are sent to The Movie Database (TMDB) to find results. We do not store your searches or link them to your account.

How we use your information

• To run the site, including your account and the community verdicts.
• To send account emails, such as sign-up confirmation.
• To keep the site secure and prevent abuse, such as vote manipulation.
• To understand how the site is used and improve it.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.

What other people can see

Community results show combined totals of votes and answers. We do not show which user gave which vote or answer. If you make your profile public, anyone with the link can see your display name and how many movies and questions you have answered. Private profiles are visible only to you.

Services we rely on

We share information with these providers only as needed to run the site:

• Supabase stores our database and handles sign-in and account emails. Privacy policy
• Vercel hosts the site and provides analytics. Privacy policy
• PostHog provides product analytics, hosted in the United States. Privacy policy
• TMDB provides movie information. Posters and images load directly from TMDB’s servers, which receive your IP address. Privacy policy
• YouTube hosts the trailers embedded on movie pages. When a trailer is shown, YouTube (owned by Google) may collect information and set cookies. Privacy policy

Affiliate links

Some links to retailers, such as Amazon, are affiliate links: if you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. When you follow a link to a retailer or streaming service, that site may use cookies to track the referral, under its own privacy policy. We do not receive your personal information from these sites.

How long we keep information

We keep your account information and contributions for as long as your account exists. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account along with the votes, answers, and profile linked to it. Server logs and analytics are kept for a limited time by our providers.

Your choices and rights

• You can change your display name and profile visibility at any time on your profile page.
• You can clear information stored in your browser through your browser settings.
• You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete your account by emailing team@isitaholidaymovie.com.

Depending on where you live, such as the European Union, the United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights over your personal information. We will respond to any request as the law requires.

Children

The site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Security and storage

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of storing or transmitting data is completely secure. Our providers may process information in the United States and other countries.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will let you know on the site.
